BUAN 674 - Database Management Systems for Business Analytics Credit(s): 3 hours The course examines the principles of design and functions of Relational Database Management Systems (DBMS), focusing on business domains and business data analytics applications. Topics include database design principles, entity-relationship diagrams, analyzing databases evolution of Database Management systems, Entity Relationships Modeling, Design of a Relational Model, Database Integrity Rules, Normalization of Database Tables, Data Warehouse, Data Mining, and Database Administration.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Understand the core principles, concepts, and applications of DBMS, focusing on business domains.
- Understand relational data models and their applications and interactions with current data management systems.
- Create conceptual database models using entity-relationship.
- Design data structures limiting redundancy and enforcing data integrity while conforming to organizational requirements.
- Design data models for querying databases and transforming data into useful information to inform business decisions and actions.
