MSAI 630 - Generative AI with Large Language Models Credit(s): 3 hours This course examines the evolving landscape of generative artificial intelligence technology. Generative AI, powered by Large Language Models, has emerged as a transformative technology with many applications. This class explores the theory, techniques, and practical applications of Generative AI using Large Language Models and their associated applications. Students will explore the intricacies of large language models (e.g., ChatGPT), developing a comprehensive understanding of their underlying mechanisms. Students will harness the power of these models to create text, media, and other forms of content that emulate human-like creativity and problem solving.
Learning Objectives:
•Comprehend the theoretical underpinnings of generative models, neural networks, and the evolution of Large Language Models (LLMs), demonstrating knowledge of how LLMs have transformed the field of AI
•Gain proficiency in the architecture and training methodologies of Large Language Models, including pre-training and fine-tuning techniques, and demonstrate the ability to critically analyze model performance.
•Develop the skills to generate diverse forms of textual content using LLMs, ranging from coherent articles and stories to creative writing and dialogue generation, showcasing an understanding of how LLMs capture language patterns.
•Apply generative AI principles to generate media beyond text, including images, audio, and video, displaying competence in adapting LLM capabilities to various creative domains.
•Evaluate the ethical implications and potential biases associated with generative AI, and apply strategies to mitigate these issues, reflecting a responsible and ethical approach to AI development.
•Utilize LLMs to develop practical applications, such as interactive chatbots, content generators, and problem-solving tools, illustrating the ability to translate theoretical knowledge into functional real-world solutions
