BIOL 403 - The Butterfly

Credit: 4 hours
This course will be an examination of both the science and culture that surrounds butterflies. For centuries butterflies have played on the fascinations of artists and scientists alike. This course will examine the general taxonomy, life history and life cycles of butterflies, and survey how butterflies have played an influential role in Hispanic culture through literary symbolism. Through class meetings and a lab component, this course integrates both scientific and literary readings in order to more fully understand this wondrous insect.
Offered: spring semester
