ELMS 335 - The Middle School This course provides an overview of the philosophy, curriculum, and organization of instruction in the middle grades. The evolution of the middle school concept, including the impact of major legislation affecting educational access for students of diverse ethnicities, abilities, and socio-cultural backgrounds is explored. A content area lesson plan, differentiated for diverse learners and incorporating interactive technology that addresses the needs of diverse learners, is required. A signature project reflecting in-depth study of the characteristics and milestones of adolescent development, correlated with prevailing theories of learning is required. Field experience required. Prerequisite(s): Formal admission to Teacher Education Program Offered: fall semesters
