SOWK 334 - Introduction to Field Practice


Credit: 3 hours
This course is designed to introduce students to field practice. Students who have been accepted to the social work program may complete this course to begin their field practice experience. This course will provide students with a focus on having students complete the application for field practice and to learn more about their student responsibilities associated with field practice. Students will interview with and secure their first social work field placement during this course. Students will participate in a seminar to address written and communication skills, listening and empathy practice skills, how to navigate difficult conversations, and inter-professional communication skills. Students will be introduced to professional skills and techniques. An emphasis will be placed on interpersonal communications for establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, colleagues, and supervisors.
Prerequisite(s): SOWK 237 - Human Behavior in the Social Environment  
Offered: Offered Fall and Spring Semesters on-campus. Offered online each semester.
