SOWK 445 - Grief and Crisis Intervention Credit: 3 hours This course will provide the student an understanding of the theories of crisis and bereavement services and intervention strategies for individuals, groups, and communities experiencing grief and crisis. Emphasis is placed on the role of the social worker in responding to crisis situations, in providing guidance in times of bereavement, loss, and times of intense difficulty. Various types of loss including suicide will be discussed from an individual, family, and socio/cultural/ecological perspective. The importance of understanding diverse traumas and their relationship to grief and loss will also be addressed.
