Secondary Proficiency

The Proficiency Evaluation Program at University of the Cumberlands provides a pathway for certified educators to add additional certification areas to an existing teaching certificate. Unlike traditional programs with a fixed course sequence, each candidate’s prior coursework is reviewed by the Proficiency Coordinator, and an individualized Educator Learning Plan (ELP) is developed. Most candidates complete 6-18 credit hours, along with relevant Praxis exams and a comprehensive exam to earn additional certification. This pathway also qualifies for provisional licensure, allowing educators to begin teaching in the new certification area while completing the ELP.
