ELEM 334 - P-5 Teaching of Social Studies


Credits: 3 hours
The purpose of this course is to equip the elementary teacher with tools for teaching social studies to children. Students will work with current Social Studies Standards to analyze theories of social studies teaching and learning as they relate to the elementary students. Students will focus on teaching, learning, and the critical role of social studies education in the school curriculum. The course will include a review of the social studies curriculum as it relates to learning and development, differences in learning styles, critical thinking, problem solving and performance skills, active learning and motivation, inquiry, collaboration and supportive classroom interaction, instructional planning and assessment.
Prerequisite(s): Formal admission to the Teacher Education Program
