HIST 402 - Myths of the American West Credits: 3 hours This course, taught in tandem with ENGL 402 , provides an investigation of the myths of the American West as seen in history, literature, and popular culture. The student will be introduced to how the concept of a myth and the creation of national heroes begin with history and end with the public’s desire to see their heroes in action in literature and popular culture such as music, cinema, and television. The primary focus of each offering may change from semester to semester to include, but not be limited to, the pioneers, the town tamers, gunfighters and lawmen, ranching, and frontier women. Prerequisite(s): Junior standing
