LEGL 239 - Legal Writing Credits: 3 hour The purpose of this course is to apply skills learned in legal research and legal terminology in formal legal writing styles. This course will introduce students to proper legal citation, legal reading, analysis, and synthesis, and the principles of effective writing. The course incorporates discussions of professional identity and professionalism and the values of cultural competence and reflection.
Course Objectives:
1: Students will learn and enhance their understanding and use of the rules of proper grammar, spelling, and style.
2: Students will understand and analyze basic tools for legal writing.
3: Students will understand professional and ethical responsibilities to clients and the legal system
4: Students will evaluate, analyze, and apply legal concepts, policies, and values at a scholarly level.
