SOWK 332 - Group and Organizations in Social Work Practice

This course examines the theory, processes, and practice of group work in human services through lecture and experiential learning methods. Students learn the value of groups, the stages of group development, the roles and tasks of the group facilitator, and the strategies for dealing with group dynamics. Course lectures and discussions will focus on the common types of groups facilitated in social work practice, including but not limited to psychoeducation, task, support, and self-help. The experiential component provides students the opportunity to participate in a group with the goal of enhancing inter/intra personal skills required for effective group leader roles.
