PHYS 432 - Experimental Physics II Credits: 3 hours An advanced laboratory course providing students with opportunities to conduct sophisticated experiments such as measuring the universal gravitational constant with the Cavendish experiment, exploring the Hall effect, measuring crystal spacing using x-ray spectroscopy, studying gamma-ray spectroscopy, exploring nuclear magnetic moments with an Earth’s field NMR system, and studying ground-state hyperfine splitting using a diode-laser system. Emphasis is placed on experiment design, error analysis, model evaluation, and professional presentations. Six laboratory hours per week. Offered: spring semester
