RN-BSN
Based on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Essentials of Baccalaureate Nursing Education, the RNBSN Nursing program is designed to build on the registered nurse’s knowledge and skills in seven areas: leadership, quality improvement, evidence-based nursing practice, nursing informatics, population-focused health promotion and disease prevention, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professionalism. Graduates of the program are prepared to assume roles in leadership positions, in the management of complex clinical care coordination, and in community/public health. Successful completion of the RN-BSN Program provides the academic foundation for graduate study.
Program Goals/ Purpose
The purpose of the RN-BSN program is to:
- Enhance the knowledge and skills of students in practicing caring for individuals, families, groups, and communities across the lifespan and the continuum of healthcare environments
- Strengthen research skills and knowledge of students for use in an evidence-based nursing practice.
- Nurture critical thinking and problem-solving skills of students in a healthcare environment
- Expand data management and communication skills of students in order to improve the quality and safety
- Expand management and leadership strategies and skills of students to meet the needs of the healthcare community
Associates Degree in Nursing
Program Goals
The Goals of the Associate Degree Nursing Program are to:
- Prepare nurses to deliver patient-centered care in multiple settings to diverse people.
- Integrate teamwork and collaboration with the aim of improving patient outcomes.
- Engage learners in recognition of the purpose and application of evidence-based nursing practice.
- Develop graduates who engage in quality improvement.
- Nurture practice development in a safe environment and provide patient safety by emphasis on personal responsibility and compliance.
- Familiarize students with technologically current techniques to enhance learning, promote patient safety, and maintain effective communication in the rapidly changing healthcare environment.
Philosophy of the Associate Degree Nursing Program
The Department of Nursing at University of the Cumberlands believes that Nursing is a culmination of caring as both an art and a science and an exemplar profession for acts of service to the community. The curriculum promotes attainment of educational outcomes through use of the nursing process and critical thinking to provide client centered evidence-based, culturally competent care. The Associate Degree program at University of the Cumberlands is built upon the pre licensure quality and safety competencies presented by the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Institute including: patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics.
Mission of the Associate Degree Nursing Program
The mission of the Associate degree nursing program is to prepare program graduates to practice with the highest integrity, while employing critical and creative thinking skills toward the care of persons from all backgrounds embodying the creed of “excellence on purpose.” The program is grounded in Christian principles and leadership through service.
