Required Professional Education courses include the following for both 8-12 and P-12 certification:

• COMM 230 - Introduction to Public Speaking Credit: 3 hours *
• EDUC 130 - Technology in the P-12 Classroom Credit: 3 hours *
• EDUC 235 - Basic Concepts Concerning Education Credit: 3 hours
• EDUC 237 - Effective Teaching Practices Credit: 3 hours

• SOWK 436 - Human Diversity in a Global Society Credit: 3 hours

• OR

• SPAN 134 - Spanish for Public Service Credit: 3 hours

• PSYC 232 - Child and Adolescent Development Credit: 3 hours
• PSYC 238 - Educational Psychology Credit: 3 hours
• SPED 233 - Survey of Individuals with Exceptionalities (P-12) Credit: 3 hours

The following may not be taken prior to admission to Teacher Education

• EDUC 331 - Studies in Education: Special Topics in Literacy Credit: 3 hours
• EDUC 432 - Fundamentals of Secondary Education Credit: 3 hours (P-12 candidates also have the option of taking EDUC 430 - Classroom Management & Behavior ) Secondary students do not have this option.
• EDUC 497 - Supervised Student Teaching Credit: 12 hours
