COOL 636 - Counseling aspects of Grief and Loss Credit(s): 3 hours This course will address the relevant knowledge and skill base needed to provide the school counselor to work effectively with individuals and families coping with a range of experiences life transitions, divorce, physical health changes, foster placement, as well as death and bereavement experiences. Candidates will explore the dynamics of attachment and loss, life cycle reactions and needs of the dying and bereaved. The grief process and factors to consider in work with grieving children, adolescents and adults will be introduced. The assessment of complicated grief reactions and social work roles and tasks in facilitating the grief process will also be presented. Prerequisite(s): None
