BUAN 675 - Business Intelligence and Data Mining Credit(s): 3 hours This course is designed to equip students with a practical understanding of the core business intelligence and data mining concepts and techniques and the application of these concepts and techniques to real-world business problems. The course will focus on extracting business intelligence by leveraging large, complex data structures with practical business applications. The hands-on projects emphasize the “know-how” aspect - extracting and applying business intelligence to improve business decision-making.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to.
- Apply key quantitative techniques in data mining and business intelligence for analyzing and improving business operations.
- Differentiate, design, and assess various business intelligence (BI) and data mining models.
- Identify and translate real-world business problems into BI and data mining problems.
- Use existing data retrieval and manipulation tools for data/information extraction and enterprise reporting.
- Select an appropriate data mining technique for a specific problem.
